Scientific Advisory Board
Stuart A. Montgomery, B.SC., MD. F.R.C. Psych. —
Dr. Montgomery has been a member of the Scientific Advisory
Board since March 1994. He developed the Montgomery Asberg scale
for the evaluation and treatment of depression. Since 1981, Dr.
Montgomery has served as a psychiatry professor and a consultant
psychiatrist at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, London, England.
Since 1992, Dr. Montgomery has served as the President of the
European College of Neuropsychopharmacology. From 1990 to 1992,
Dr. Montgomery was a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
in London, England. He is editor of International Clinical Pharmacology
and European Neuropsychophannacology, and has published extensively.
Dr. Montgomery received a B.SC. from the University of London
in 1960 and completed his medical degree in 1963 with an MBBS
from the University College Hospital, University of London. He
was awarded an M.D. as a research doctorate (Ph.D.) from Karolinska
Institute, Stockholm (1978). He holds a diploma of Psychological
Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, London
(1973) and a membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists, London
(1974). He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists,
London (1984).
Karl Rickels, MD. — Dr. Rickels has been
a member of the Scientific Advisory Board since March, 1994. From
1972-1975, Dr. Rickels served as chairman of the FDA's advisory
review panel on over-the-counter daytime and nighttime sedatives
and stimulant products. Since 1957, Dr. Rickels has served as
a member of various departmental faculties of the University of
Pennsylvania. Since 1964, Dr. Rickels has been appointed to serve
in various hospital and administrative positions for the Hospital
of the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia General Hospital,
and the University of Pennsylvania. From 1975-1977; Dr. Rickels
was Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Philadelphia
General Hospital. Dr. Rickels has been the Stuart and Emily B.H.
Mudd Professor of Human Behavior since 1977 and a Professor of
Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Psychiatry,
since 1969. He completed his medical internship at Dortmund Hospital
in Germany in 1952, post-graduate training at the Universities
of Erlangen and Frankfurt in 1954, and a residency in psychiatry
at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1957. Dr.
Rickels was awarded an Abitur degree in 1942 at Berlin-Lichtenberg
and an M.D. in 1951 from Muenster University, Germany. Dr. Rickels
has published more than 480 scientific publications, abstracts,
chapters and books.
Davis L. Temple, Jr., Ph.D. — Dr. Temple
has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board since March
1994. Dr. Temple has more than 20 years of experience in the area
of pharmaceutical research and development. Prior to January 1994,
Dr. Temple was Vice President, Central Nervous System Drug Discovery
at BMS. Dr. Temple's various responsibilities at BMS included
the management of diverse areas of research and development, including
molecular biology, biophysics and clinical research. He also conducted
several major clinical development programs, and is credited as
the inventor of Gepirone on the U.S. Patent. Dr. Temple is the
author of more than 100 publications in the areas of medicinal
chemistry, neurosciences, and is named on numerous U.S. Patents.
Dr. Temple consults extensively for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical
industry. He received his B.S. in pharmacy and his Ph.D. in medicinal
chemistry from the University of Mississippi, and was a post-doctoral
fellow at Louisiana State University.
